It is always an honour to be invited by the GestaltIT team for a Tech Field Day, but being invited to a big event like Cisco Live EMEA is very special. This year the event was in Amsterdam and as a Dutch citizen travelling to the capital is rather easy 😊. It is especially great to have the opportunity to meet my friend and partner (Max)during these special events, and have the opportunity to listen to the presenters presenting the amazing abilities that the Cisco products offer, and at the same time discuss business and strategies for this year. But this event was all about Cisco, so in this post I want to zoom in on one of the topics that I enjoyed listening to, the Cisco secure Firewall 3100.
The Cisco Secure Firewall 3100
This presentation was given by Andrew Ossipov, and according to our freund aus Deutschland and fellow delegate Dominik Pickhardt (@NerworkAutobahn) this would be a real interesting presentation. He was right, and Andrew started with the introduction of the Cisco Secure Firewall 3100, which is a highly secure, next-generation firewall solution designed to help organizations protect their environments from a wide range of cyber threats. As part of Cisco’s Security portfolio, it provides a comprehensive security solution to help organizations protect their networks and data.
I’m not a specialist in this field but what I got out of the presentation is that the 3100 Firewall series is designed to provide security to organizations of all sizes. It is equipped with advanced security features, including intrusion prevention, application control, and URL filtering. On top on that it also provides a powerful security engine that can inspect network traffic at high speeds, making it ideal for enterprises with high-speed network connections.
Cisco Secure Firewall 3100 features
One of the key features of the Cisco Secure Firewall 3100 series is its intrusion prevention system (IPS). A feature designed to detect and prevent malicious activity on the network. IPS uses signature-based and behavioural-based detection techniques to identify and block malicious traffic. Also included is an advanced threat defence system that integrates with Cisco’s Threat Response platform to provide real-time protection against emerging threats.
Another important feature of the Cisco Secure Firewall 3100 series is its application control capabilities. This gives organizations the ability to control the types of applications that are allowed to run on their networks. It can identify and block potentially harmful applications, such as malware or phishing attempts. The application control feature also provides granular control over the usage of specific applications, such as social media applications.
Additional features provided by the 3100 series to the Cisco customers are:
- URL filtering, designed to prevent employees from accessing inappropriate or malicious websites. This can be configured to block access to specific websites or categories of websites. The URL filtering feature also provides detailed reporting and analysis of website usage, allowing organizations to monitor employee activity and make informed decisions about internet usage policies.
- Scalability, which makes it ideal for organizations of all sizes. There is support for a wide range of interface options, from Gigabit Ethernet, up to 40 Gigabit Ethernet. This allows organizations to easily expand their network infrastructure, if needed.
- A friendly management interface, which makes it easy to configure and manage. The interface provides a graphical representation of the network, making it simple to understand the configuration and status. Additionally, it includes a range of security tools and reporting features, allowing administrators to quickly identify and address security issues.
